I am thinking of doing my masters sometime in the near future and Savana College of Art and Design, SCAD for short offers a wicked cool ONLINE masters in Art Teaching. Check it out here:

I may even be able to get a half tuition scholarship just because I am teaching right now. The one year intensive program that I could do on a matriculating basis, taking one or two courses a quarter, would cost a whopping $30,000, but if half were paid and I could find some grant money to help with the remainder, it could be reasonable. Let me know what you think.

Artwork with Crayola washable marker???

So, for my class in elementary I have found a cleaner method for getting painterly-like works done by my students and I decided to start playing with the media myself to see what I could do with it. I have found that it is an excellent media because it is so unpredictable . . . I love experimenting with it. Here is what I came up with (You can see more in the art gallery on facebook):

Summer works . . .

Surprisingly despite the traveling to the States and traveling around while there this summer I was still able to produce some artwork. I will post pictures in the art gallery as soon as I have them. I am currently stuck on working with water-soluble media, watercolor paints, graphite, and pens to name a few. I am also quite addicted to the contrast that working with permanent marker affords to my watercolor paintings. Hopefully I’ll have them up soon for you to enjoy!:)

“Professional Life”?

I have been thinking alot lately about what I could be considered a professional at. I mean, I have a degree in art education so, technically, that means I am a professional teacher even though I have never really felt like one. I have a dream that I could be a professional artist, but on bad days I really feel that I lack the ability to succeed in that too. What is it that I can do really well then? This is a thought that has plagued me for a while now. . . . more thoughts later.

I have found that I really enjoy watercolor painting. My interest was sparked by the work of Mat Barber Kennedy. You can check out his work here His work with mixed media and watercolor really fascinates me. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to drop in to his studio on Halsted Street in Chi-town when we are back this summer.

On another note, I have found that having this blog is a real help when describing what it is I do. I hope to add some shots of more recent work very soon.

We currently have another awesome artist staying with us. Marissa Voytenko and her husband Vitaliy are staying with us for a couple weeks and are expecting their 1st child on or around May 2nd. Marissa is an Encaustic/mixed media artist that has very similar artistic interests as me. I have never met a professional artist that understood the present stage of seeming stagnation that I am in. It has been refreshing and super encouraging to me to keep on doing my own work regardless of how I feel it is going.

Old leather vest . . . what can one do with that?

I got this old leather vest at a second hand shop in Czech for about a $1.50 and basically stripped the leather off of it. I have a couple projects that I want to use it for, but the most recent one is a holder for our traveling documents, passports and airline tickets and so forth. Check it out in the gallery marked “crafts”. It was fun to make. Just some cardboard to make a sturdy box the shape of our passports and then leather covering it makes a cool little box for keeping things organized.

I’m not usually a “craftsy” person, but I find it way more rewarding to go and make something I need rather than buy it somewhere. I find I am “craftsy” for practical uses, not just craftsy for craftsy’s sake.

My top favorite things I own that I have made are my guitar strap and my notebooks. Maybe I’ll share some pictures once I have them.

I have used the word “craftsy” way too many times in this post!:)

This blog is to document the creative things that I am doing in my spare time. I believe that the Lord has blessed all of us with creativity and that one can feel extremely close to the Lord when creating. I would encourage you to find the time to be creative.

My “professional” artistic interests include but are not limited to: ceramics, drawing, photography, graphic design. I really do art for enjoyment, but if you see something on this blog that you want and would be willing to pay I can attempt to accommodate you. Just let me know!

I have an art education degree from Huntington College and have now taught art K-12 for 4 years. I find that to keep my sanity I need to do “my own art” sometimes. Hope you enjoy this blog!
